Thoughts on the Race
Aaron Tolson read My Beautiful Idol and created this video a while back. A very flattering experience for me – and humbling.
Another friend God introduced me to through my books is writing his Masters thesis on community, faith and the race. Is the race of faith and life a sprint, a marathon, a relay, or something else?
What do you think?

I enjoyed this video. We sometimes get caught up in that we have been told in church to go back and get people and bring them with us. When did that actually become our responsibility? I think that we give ourselves more credit regarding our power than we deserve. I am not that cool even though sometimes my pride gets in the way of reality. The Holy Spirit is here for a reason and we need to allow it to flow freely without us getting in the way. What does that mean for us? Am I not allowed to tell others how it is wonderful to live in the spirit and see Christ move in my life and the lives of other people? I do tell people about it; with passion and amazement. But I am starting to understand that if we stay in that moment waiting for others to join in then we are missing out on our race as Aaron describes it in the video. If I had waited for my friends and family to come along, my wife and I would still be in Missouri, would never have moved to Guatemala, and would not currently be living intentionally in a Latino community in the D.C Metro Area loving our neighbors, reconciling broken relationships between the church and the immigrant, and helping them to see that they have value. Sometimes you just have to go without them and let God take care of the rest.
