Rising at the speed of falling.
I just heard that phrase in A Soldier of the Great War, which I’m listening to during my workouts.
I’m having a period of that sort of rising, and the experience is breathtaking. My marriage is in a great place. My posture with God. The work He’s doing in me. My career (I just took a position that increases my income significantly while giving me the chance to influence a global brand that’s tied closely with the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals). And my body – I’m typing this on my phone while standing backwards on a treadmill at the YMCA, where I am one hour into my 2.5 hour walk.
It makes sense that sometimes there are times when we rise at the speed of falling. Sometimes we catch a thermal updraft, and we shoot skyward. After all, as Helprin writes earlier in ASotGW, the world is fire.
I’ve dwelled in low and dark places. I have learned to love there. I am ready to learn love in new places.
May you rise at the speed of falling, and embrace it, when it is your season too.
Back to sweating.
